Here is a Hawaiian fish hook pendant I made for my wife as a birthday present. We went to Hawaii in June and we both want to go back. I would have liked to make it out of koa but I did not have any. Purple heart is one of her favorites so that is what I went with. I also turned a lidded box (my first) out of some pine I got from a buddy’s scrap bin. It was a 2×4 that was taken from an old house in Norfolk, VA. Picture 4 shows the board the lidded box came from. Picture 5 shows my Hawaiian fish hook keychain. I traced it on graph paper then copied it at 50%. If I were to make another one, I would make it a hair bigger. Same with the box. The fish hook is finished with lacquer. The box is finished with beeswax. I just rubbed it on the box with the lathe turning and buffed it with paper towel.

Ah yes, we see allot of these here in the Islands…most are carved from a Sharks tooth that you might find on the same from time to time. What Island did you visit? The wife and I have lived here for about 8 years after visiting for many more than that….lovely weather all year long.

Hawaiilad, we visited Oahu. Absolutely beautiful. I really like the fish hook and, well, pretty much everything else I saw! I may try to get stationed at Pearl Harbor a little later on in my career.
