There was no bed originally designed for the Thorsen House. As a part of my involvement with “Friends of the Thorsen House” (I am on the board of directors) – I designed and built a bed to be used by the students living there. The plan is that the students will replicate my design and eventually populate all the rooms with this bed.
The bed is a rather simple, but designing it gave me fits. It needed to be simple enough for the students to build but had to blend well with the house as well. I borrowed the scroll pattern in the center panel from the taboret and plant stands of the Thorsen House.

Absolutely magnificent! Your are the true master of the Greene and Greene style and one hell of a craftsman. When is your new book coming out? Thanks for sharing.

So there are students living in the Thorsen house, and they’re going to be doing reproductions?
Is there someplace I can read about this program?

Jon – the Thorsen House has been a fraternity since 1943 – the students go to UC Berkeley.

Darrell, what a beautiful job, this will be a perfect bed for them to learn and build, what a marvelous way to have your design celebrated, one in every bedroom , as already mentioned by others, your skills and ability are bar none, and are here for many to be inspired by.

Darrell, as usual your design blends perfectly with the G&G style. I am a big fan of your work and the G&G style. Looking forward to your new book. Is your bed design going to be available for purchase or anything like that?

Yes – its a bit short but I was running out of long boards and really did not think anyone would notice.
I am not sure if this piece will go in my portfolio or not – it will be the subject of an upcoming article for Popular Woodworking though ( project article).
