Used quarter sawn white oak, stained Jacobean, finished with wipe on poly. Finger/box joints were easy with Rockler Router Table Box Joint Jig. Nice ray fleck shows through! Used a brass pull-ring (recessed) for openning sliding lid. This was a graduation present for my niece (she’s now a nurse!).
p.s. Love the smell of white oak! Red oak always smells of sour milk to me….
