Scratch Awl from Scratch (with link to EZ how to)

Made an awl from scratch… pun intended.

complete step by step (photo heavy) in my blog here:

it was an easy, quick build.

steal some steel from a screwdriver
shape it with a grinder in the lathe
mount a brass fitting on an old branch and shape with a round nose scraper, file and polish
press and epoxy onto a nice hunk of wood (redwood burl in this case)
shape the wood and give it a durable finish.

tada! A one of a kind Christmas gift in in an afternoon.

It looks, well, sharp ! I just stopped at the screwdriver grinding stage . . . Yours looks infinitely nicer.

Beautiful, I plan on one myself and have been hitting a few garage sales and pick up old screw drivers very cheap…... Excellent idea for x-mas….. thanks for posting.
