This carrier based shadow box was originally done for a retiring Aviation Boatswain’s Mate Master Chief. The design was later tweeked and it is what you see today. The original make over won 1st place in Design in Wood Exhibit 2010, San Diego for “Model Building Not to Scale”. Since then I have reproduced it only changing the rating insignia you see on the inside. This particular one was made for a retiring air traffic controller (AC). The AC rating was done by my brother while I whipped out the shadow box. Walnut, maple, oak.

Ken, this is way cool. I like it. I was on the USS Enterprise CVN65 back in the mid 80’s.

Great work.

That is really cool! I’ll just apologize now for stealing your idea for when my day comes, but I am an airdale, so I’ll need to do whatever my last bird is.

That is awesome!!!!!!!!

I am retired Navy, and I have seen MANY MANY shadow boxes….This one is by far the most original and creative one I have seen.
It might prove to be very financially beneficial for you to come up with other ship types. I know a couple of resources that these would sale like hotcakes~~~
