...box.
This was going to be a “quick, fun and easy” project – everyone knows pianos are dead easy to build, right?
Well, it was fun, but it was neither quick nor easy.
I did the research so it would be “anatomically correct” and discovered that all those gaps for the black keys were actually slightly differently placed within the white keys. And there’s a gap between the white keys. And there’s a gap between the white keys and the black keys. And strange angles on the black keys. And interesting contouring on the white keys. I stared at a lot of pictures. But I think it came out looking pretty much like a keyboard, which was obviously the basic idea.
The wife’s comment – “Does it need a key to open it?”
Ash and fumed oak. Life-sized. Linseed oil finish.
All comments, jokes, musical interludes etc etc – most welcome.

Pretty cool project. I have an uncle who has a Grand in their home that is an amazing player. Might have to consider this. I think I might try to use india black ink for the keys. Nice work.

The resemblance is striking. Probably took a lot of fine tuning to look this great.

I like it! Your posting title is pretty clever…...looks like a lot of work, but will always draw the comments. Nicely done.

“Sing us a song, you’re the piano man
Sing us a song tonight
Well, we’re all in the mood for a fancy new box
And you’ve got us feelin’ alright”
Consider the idea stolen.
Nice touch on the front lip of the white keys.

Vewry unique and original design for a box. I definitely think it is very nice and most certainly alot of thought went into its design.
