My LJ buddy Dallas recently sent me some Live Oak and “Texas Juniper” so I had to make a special box using the woods he sent. I’m not usually a big fan of oak but this is a different oak! Note the really unusual ‘clusters’ of knots in the last pic. Also note that both ends and the bottom were resawed from the same piece (I didn’t waste anything). Dimensions:11×7x4 1/2”. Patron/Grizz hinges of hedge. Finished with shellac. Thanks Dallas!

I like the contrast in the wood. You did a really nice job on showing off the wood.

I love it! I might try that type of hinge on the box Im making now. Mine is red oak as well. Trying to make one for my daughter in OK. They’re coming down in a couple of weeks.

beautiful- beautiful box Andy, yea we have the live oak here of coarse and i really like it, see the thing is…what you have is really red cedar, but Texans* like to think they have something special, so they call it something else, just so they can be different…LOL.. and how much longer do i have to get second billing on the hinges…LOL.. im just kidding you know…anyway , great box, i like the finish also, your a good box builder…and your creative juices are developing really well to…...

Very good use of the woods. I would like to see a pic of the top of the box if you can muster one up. :)

Thanks guys. I don’t know why this tree won’t grow North of Dallas as I would love to be able to cut some. Rance, The pics of the top all had severe glare. That’s why I took that last close up of one of ‘burled knots’ on the top. My photography really sucked today. Sorry.
