I had a piece of the poplar tree I got a couple weeks ago. Pretty stuff. So I decided to make a box for it. First wood I came to was Russian Olive. Hard to cut up & smells bad, but I like its look.
Wish I had a couple big poplars with this coloring. Would make some neat furniture.
Thanks for looking

That top is some beautiful wood that is new to me.You’re hooked on the hinges, aren’t you? Tip: “streamline” them a bit and downsize them for a cleaner look. (not criticism, just a suggestion). What are the overall dimensions of this box?

So Monte, how bad does it smell, haha. Both the top and box show nice grain pattern. Good Choice. Is the lid hinged? Are those wood hinges or a natural part of the top?

Hey Monte, If the box smells really bad, shellac is great at covering up all odors.

Russian Olive smells bad when you’re cutting it. Not really on the finished product. I have a couple trunks I can cut into dimensional Lumber.

Very cool Monte, I love the way the top came out.

Nice box, the top really adds the character to it.
