In 2007, when our first daughter was born we bought a little kit with a ball of clay and pre-cut mats and a frame and shadowbox frame hinged together. It is the second picture above. In 2010, when our second daughter was born we looked everywhere for that same kit. Couldn’t find it. Looked for a similar thing. Couldn’t find it. I even looked for a couple of pre-made frames that were the same size and finish so I could just hinge them together. Couldn’t find it. Finally I asked myself, “why are you trying so hard to buy something, when you know you just want to make it yourself.” So I did. The size is the same, The joinery on mine is more simple than the one I bought, and I didn’t stain the clear pine I used so it is lighter in color. But all in all, I hardly look at my handiwork when I see these frames…

Thanks Don. I would have tried to make one the first time, but I was living in an apartment and my tools were all in my dad’s basement which was a 2 hour drive away.
