I made this cherry and maple cutting board using the top from my mothers old portable dish washer. Cut it down from 24×24 to 19X23 and planed to a thickness of 3/4. Added the maple strips to the ends using biscuits and routed the edges. The 3/4 thickness seemed to be thin for a cutting board but it works very well. My wife likes the light weight and now uses it as her primary cutting board. Finished the board with “mineral oil for cutting boards” from Bed, Bath and Beyond. Enjoyed making something useful out of something old.

Hi Charlie,

This is a very nice board. How did you know that maple and cherry were my favorite wood combination? :) Great use of “scrap” material as well.

Thanks for the post.

Great job on this board ! : )

I’ve had my eye on my parents dishwasher top for some time now and always liked the look of the top but never really checked it out closely . Well , wouldn’t you know it , the dishwasher finally croaked and I found out that the nice looking top is only a veneer : ( .......L O L !! Have a great day !
