Thanks to Mike Pounders for his blog on carving a no see-ums santa. Mike does fantastic carvings and spent the time to put together a blog some months back on how to carve them. I still need more practice at it but not going to give up on it.

I have seen serveral carvings by Mike Pounders and his latest “Chicken and Dumpling” is my favorite. It is cute and funny at the same time and has much character about it. I chuckle every time I see it. Nice work Mike and thanks for taking your time to create a blog on the santas that you do.

You’re making me blush! I’m glad you gave these Santas a shot…it looks like you’ve got them figured out pretty good! They are fun and you get to try a lot of different expressions and beards, and hats. If you get a chance, you might check out a class at the War Eagle carving seminars in September. It is a week of carving classes by a number of instructors and I highly recommend it! It made a difference in my carving for sure. Adair Rucker and Steve Brown each have classes that include Santas and Gerald Sears’ class may also. It is followed immediately by a two-day carving show (at the same location) and Lynn Doughty is the featured artist! There will also be a tool vendor (Old Texas WoodCarvers) and a wood supplier at both events. It’s like a summer camp for carvers!

I agree, Mike P is a wonderful carver and I remember that tutorial and it was great. Mike S, your Santa looks really nice. Congratulations.
