Natural edge box elder bowl turned from freshly cut storm damaged tree. Bowl is 15 inches in diameter, 7 1/2 inches tall and 3/16” wall thickness. Finish is many coats of mimwax gloss wipe on poly. I turned the piece all the way to the final thickness two days after it was cut down. By turning it thin, letting it spin on the lathe and using a high pressure air hose the piece was practically dry when I took it off of the lathe. Let it sit for a week in the shop and then put finish on it. The red streaks in the box elder will fade as they are exposed to UV light. I had enough of this wook to also turn a tall natural edge vase and a mini top hat.

Jeff: A great looking bowl. Nice job.

I wondered about the red streaks and if they were the same after time.

Very nicely done! You kept that bark on well. Did it move a lot, as you turned the outer edges green? That seems like a big one at 15”. I’m envious! Gotta’ try this one day. Nice work.

Very nicely done. Hoping my tree service people get some box elder trees for me. I think it’s beautiful.

Another wonderful natural edge bowl. You are really good at these Jeff! It’s all about the shape, and yours are just right. Great work.
