A good friend of mine who was stationed in Hawaii with me while in the Army is having his first child this week and I wanted to make him something special. He loves surfing and owns over 20 boards and over the last year he has gotten into woodworking too. So I thought for a while and came up with a baby mobile with little surfboards.
It was a great little project because I used all little scraps laying around the shop. I tried to use as many different woods as I could (especially ones from Hawaii).
Hanging and balancing each piece is actually much easier than you might imagine. This if definitely an easy project and I recommend it to anybody looking to make a special gift for somebody having a baby. It doesn’t really matter what you hang from the arms.
In the second photo, the woods from left to right are: maple with walnut and purple heart, cuban mahogany, pheasant wood, narra, koa, walnut, maple with koa, mango with purple heart, and curly maple.
I’ll post a short blog on how to make it later today.
Thanks for looking!

Great job. I like the assortment of woods. Should make a great gift.
