Had to take down a very large pin oak from my front yard a while back, and just couldn’t see it reduced to firewood. Some nice folks with sawmills helped out; now, I have more oak than I’ll use in many years (I posted about the sawing process some time ago). This is my first project with the resulting wood, a standing desk of my own design. The through-tenon was kind of fun. Learned some things about tools, wood, planing and sanding, and am more interested than ever in making stuff, so it’s been a good and creative experience. Finished with multiple coats of wipe on poly. Am using it at work. I built it to be solid, stable and provide enough room to do computer work while standing comfortably. I kind of like it. Beats the heck out of getting stiff and slumping in a chair all day. Thoughts & comments welcome.

Rob, thanks for the comment on my pen and in return a comment on your desk. I’m a big fan of standing while using the computer…keeps your blood flowing. Nice job and clever use of the tenon.

I’m trying to convert to the standing desk. If mine was this gorgeous, it’d be an easy transition:)
