Dining Room Table

First of all…that’s a staged photo. :)

My wife Julia wanted a new dining room and kitchen table built. I’m done with those two projects, and am now working on 10 of Kevin Rodel’s Side Chairs. (4 will eventually go around this table.)

This table has 5 fairly wide pine boards implemented into the table top. These five very tight-grained boards used to be 2 by 10 floor joists in the old porch that was part of our house (before our renovation) that my dad built in 1948. So a part of my dad is in this table.

The 5 pieces of pine are surrounded by solid cherry. I glued the entire top together as one solid piece with bread board ends knowing full well of the possible outcome. And yes…I do have a couple very small splits. But we like them. :)

The legs are made up of laminated solid cherry.

As you can see, I once again had no plans for this table and my kitchen table. Just very crude (humorous) drawings.

Very true Cozmo. He’s just a nut. This is the young German man I talk about in “cutting board” post.

Nice work. Be sure to let us know how the Rodel chairs go. I am in the middle of building 6 more dining chairs (total of 14). I have the Rodel plans too, and it will be a future project for me.

Nice table, at least you used a full sheet of paper for the plans, I did plenty of projects sketched out on post it notes. Grab the wrong note and cut the wrong size, been there done that, more than once.
