The project is the two bookcases on the side of the TV stand. It was my very first woodworking project.

Goal was to make them match the TV stand in the middle, which I was pretty happy with how close I got.

They are stained with Minwax Red Oak stain, and finished with about 4 or 5 coats of 50/50 poly/mineral spirits.

When I look back on these, I laugh at all the things I did “wrong” and would never do again. Staining is on the list of things I will try to avoid (why stain a wood to look like a different wood; just use the wood with the color you want to begin with).

I also just winged it with building these. They are nothing fancy, but not having some plans to begin with adds a lot of extra time fixing up goofs and what not that could have been avoided with plans. I’ve become very proficient with Google Sketchup after this project.
