This is a wooden train that I have been working on for the last two weeks. I have never made anything like this before so it was a new challenge. I made this out of a lot of different types of wood. I used cedar, pine, poplar, birch plywood, and a little bit of douglas fir. This was a project where I got to have a lot of fun with the lathe. I turned the wheels, boiler, and the smoke stack. The wheels were the biggest challenge. I made a jig for the drill press to make the holes for the axles evenly spaced. I was thinking about applying a safe finish to it but I like the way it looks now. This was a very fun project and im looking forward to making another one in the near future.

Very nice, I should build something like this. (my son would love it)
how big is the train? Maybe for the next one build a couple different type of cars. Flat bed, box car etc..

That’s one fine looking train you’ve built, well done.
Watch out, toymaking is additive.

hello ….not telling you what to do ….... but I find it much easier to use a hole saw to make wheels like that ….....but if it works for you then go with it ….......GREAT JOB
