Due to having severely high prices, a local bakery went out of business. He had some really neat stuff – giant bakeware that I didn’t get a chance to look at, some giant mixers. Really neat. But he had 1 gallon and 2 gallon cookie jars. At 5 bucks, I couldn’t pass up the 1 gallon jar. To my dissatisfaction, the jar had a large chip in the lid, and since it’s going to sit on my desk tantalizing clients with candy, I couldn’t have any defects in it. So I turned one, why not?
The base of the lid is made of walnut, and the little knob up there is a piece of oak. Several board feet of walnut is a LOT for a 5 dollar cookie jar; however, I am extremely happy with it, and my dad is all jealous now. He has the same cookie jar, with a glass lid! :D
Edit: Added some color. Enjoy!

Your lid is good but I want to know where the cookies are?

Thanks! Lesb, I would love to bake some chocolate chip and toss em in! Don’t think this jar is very airtight, though… time to alleviate that!

You are really cranking out the turnings. Nice idea, I like the shape.

Thanks, Nick! I’m having fun with my machine. Plus I have left over walnut from my desk just begging to be used. Got around 5 bf left, too!
