I saw a wooden shell in book a while back, and it was lingering in my mind ever since.
So I thought I’d give it a try. For the koa box I used a forstner bit to gouge out the center and you can see the marks of it. On the paulownia, I gouged it out with a carving chisel as the wood is much softer.
I used sandpaper till about 800 grit then finished them with a wax finish.

Thank you for all the comments! My wife and her friends liked them too but I haven’t found a good use for them other than sitting on a shelf an looking interesting.
