Slightly modified plans from Family Handyman. Turned out to be a little more involved than I thought! It’s red oak and oak plywood. The main thing I’d add if you decide to make this program is that just cutting the curves with a jigsaw or bandsaw doesn’t work unless you’re a lot better at it than I am. I ended up making a template out of mdf and using it and a pilot bit to make a smooth curve. It’s finished with a BLO-poly-mineral spirits mix.

If I were doing it again I’d improve some built-up molding for the tops rather than the large dentils that the plan calls for.

The picture doesn’t look great, since I took it with my phone, but hopefully it gives you some idea of the project. This unit is in the master bedroom directly across from the bed. Now I have to work on the rest of the bedroom suite!

Looks good to me. Also very functional.

I kind of like the large dentils. That was the first thing that caught my eye.

Thanks! Actually those are books, mostly. But there are a lot of movies in the living room. The wife and kids watch them again and again, so they get their money out of them. I’d rather borrow or rent them than buy them. Once I’ve seen it, it’s not likely I want to see it again (with some exceptions).

Just checked out your website, Tim … those lamps are really beautiful.

This is a very nice bookcase. I am like Gary the dentils were the first thing I noticed and thought that they were unique. As such they add a nice detail to the piece.

thanks for the post. I have enjoyed looking at your work.

Great looking unit. I better not show this to my daughter. I bet she has enough DVD’s and tapes to fill this!

Thanks for posting.
