I built this chest for a retiring Marine. Made from pine and finished with brush on lacquer. I decided to not stain this due to trying pre-wood conditioner on a piece of scrapwood with stain and not liking the results. My favorite part is the brass Eagle Globe and Anchor which is originally a door knocker. I removed part of the bracket in the back and then grinded down the assembly flat, drilled holes to fit screws, and then used screws and nuts to secure it to the backing. It was also sprayed with lacquer to prevent it from tarnishing. He got a great kick out of seeing his bootcamp picture in there! Enjoy!

Looks good. I have built similar ones and always liked the shadow box lid.
Have your say...
