This project was made as a birthday gift for my wife. I used maple boards for the project and a music movement from giftsonline.net. The brass hinges and knobs were ordewred fom rockler. The plan was taken rom Woodworking Projects by the staff of workbench magazine. The finish was about 10 coats of tung oil.when the top drawer is opened the movement plays Laura`s Theme ( Somewhere My Love ) The drawers were lined with self stick blue velvet ordered from Rockler.

Wow, I didn’t know you could get tung oil so glossy! Nice work on the finish. I bet your wife is very pleased!

Hi Herb,
This is a very nice box. I am not sure I would have the patience to put on 10 coats of any finish. After about 3 coats I start to get bored with the process. But obviously this is worth the effort.
Thanks for the post.

how wonderful!!! I wouldn’t have guess that there would be music with this. How many times does she have tears in her eyes when it plays?? :)

Nice heirloom box – I can see your grandchildren using this box in years to come. The finish is really nice and should prove to be very durable.

Great job, Herb. I really like the way you hid the drawers behind doors.
