This is the bed I made out of 1-1/4” walnut with Carpathean Elm Burl Veneer. I took some of the ideas from other antiques we have in our home. The crosses are from a bed that my wife’s grandfather threw away in 1920. We found it in the mid 70’s above a chicken house where it had been for 55 years. I restored it for our daughter in the 90’s and copied the crosses from it. The last picture is of one of two night stands that I made a few years ago to go with the bed (if you want to see pictures of the night stands they are on my other projects).
The bed was finished first with medium Walnut Deftoil, then about 10 coats of de waxed shellac mixed 50/50 with denatured alcohol, then waxed with a dark Briwax.
