This is actually a project I finished almost a year ago, but I just found the pictures of. It’s a cradle made from pine which was a surprise gift for my (then brand-new) nephew. A pretty simple project, but a lot of fun to build. I didn’t have any plans for this, I just came up with it as I went, with a little research into safe placement of the bars. With a young one like this, safety is always a concern.

My wife was kind enough to make the mattress and a few mattress covers for it (Gavin has his choice of turtles or monsters). Actually, she helped me out a lot with this project, including hand-painting Gavin’s name across the head of the cradle, and drilling some of the holes for the bars.

Thanks for looking.

Very nice project and especially nice both you and your wife worked on it. Isn’t more fun to build something of your own creation. I love that aspect of woodworking and my recent projects have been my plans. Great you did some safety research because even babies can get their heads between the posts and get that thing rocking too much. Your nephew is lucky!

I like your design, the rockers are nice an wide. I some times see cradles where the rockers are the width of the cradle. You have to compensate for the added weight of another toddler on the outside trying to pulling it over to play with the baby. Well Done!

Very nice.
I too, like the extra width of the rockers. Mostly, so that it can be rocked by foot from someone sitting in a chair along side.
I’m favoriting this one for future use.
Thank you.
