I found a piece of Spalted Magnolia and thought it would make a nice table. The legs are cherry but they aren’t as red as they appear in this picture. The top is approx. 1” thick but you can’t see the typical chamfer on the underside of a shaker table from the angle the picture was taken. Knob is just a hardwood drawer pull picked up at Lowe’s…I don’t have a lathe. :o)

That is some awesome magnolia. Is it a fairly soft wood?
I too like the contrast with the legs.
Thanks for posting it.

To be candid, I’ve never used Magnolia before that project or since, and I just don’t remember if it was difficult to work with or not. It certainly wasn’t bad enough to be noteworthy in my memory so I’d say it was along the lines of working with maple maybe?

I like the spalted magnolia, it has a wonderful grain. I am going to have to see about getting some for a project in the future. The table is nicely done. I have never seen cherry that dark before. Thanks for sharing.
