12 drawer Maple captains bed

This piece was made for a customer in KS out of hard Maple. It has pine drawers on wood runners. The pulls were hand made out of solid maple as well.
They are using only a mattress so I was concerned about strength and the mattress sagging. I developed a truss system between the drawers to give it great strength.
It was sprayed with a semi gloss poly

looks great. it’d be nice to see more of what it’s like inside – what sort of support for the mattress etc..

i’ve mostly seen platform beds, for mattress only use, with a plywood panel top surface. In fact, there’s one in my bedroom right now, and another I set up for my son’s place. Anyway, i would also be interested in what you did inside, and how the mattress does with that cross0hatch style support grid.
