this is my latest project and i’m not sure i’m done- i may re-finish the top to match the base, maybe leaving the front edge plain. i was very indecisive on this one. i went back and forth on just about every detail and ended up with the rounded sides dyed with solar lux blood red and finished with 3 coats of waterlox.

I tend to like contrasts like this between the top and the base. It adds a nice detail to the piece.

Did you use maple splines as well?

Pictures of the inside of the box would have been nice too.

But this is nice box.

I usually like contrasts in woods, but in this case I think I agree with you about the top. I think it looks a
little too “unfinished”. Something to get fid of the white glare like a light oak coloring maybe.

Gary is right there. The top appears unfinished, but the whole image is nice. The top may look good in a light to golden oak. Do you plan on attaching a handle? Also, Scott’s suggestion for inside pics of the box would be great.
Thanks.

I really like the shape!

You just have to keep making more boxes so you can try out all those different options that are running through your mind.

That’s waht I was thinking – just keep making more – one of all of your ideas! My eyes want to see it all in red. I like the lid detail.

The box good – but I agree with the other guys (and you) I think it would look better if you darkened up that top a little – or even matched the base. Oh, and more inside pictures :-))

I really like the shape of the lid, and yeah I agree with Gary it looks a little too bright right now. Show us where you end up, I’d like to see the final too.

The part I like the most is the curved lip on the lid. Nice touch.
But then again, the curved sides are pretty cool too.
