I built this mailbox about 15 years ago. A few weeks ago I saw that it was in need of repair. I put a new roof on and repainted it. The roof is covered with rubber and on top of that I installed small shingles cut from real shingles.

You are a wonderful Uncle to have made this for your niece. Very creative and well done especially since it is 15 years old. I really like all of the details on it.

I wish my e-mail inbox looked as pretty as this. So many nice details – the curtains in the windows, the fancy cutouts on the supports and eaves, the castellated base. Now if you could only make some smoke come out of the chimney when there’s new mail!

Beautiful job. My only thought is that some low-rent character will take a swing at it with a baseball bat.

Thanks guys for the comments.
Yes Knothead62, about 10 years ago someone drove by and hit it with a brick. The next morning I saw on the ground the brick and it had some paint on it that was a different color than what was on the mailbox. I hope it was the color of the car. The mailbox is heavy and well built so not too much damage was done. It was a quick fix.
