So I figured maybe I would have a go at creating a birdhouse. I sometimes enjoy winging something like this and seeing where it leads me versus a sketched and measured out plan in my notebook. The bottom door for instance was the very last thing that was done…I like to paint myself into a corner to see what I can come up with…sometimes it works, sometimes a good lesson…lol. I hope this might be an enjoyable project to share with others, and also any birdhousing advice is greatly welcome!
After getting hit with hurricane IRENE I used the top widdled dowel for the carved bird and bottom widdled key for the trap door from some fallin maple in our yard…...hope everyone is ok after the storm in those areas. I was very fortunate not to recieve much damage at all…...hence the mini carved maple dowels….sort of my own little reminder of this wonderful sunny day today after such a scary one this weekend..and also being very thankful my house is in one piece and that my family/friends are well.
How amazing those trees….we have our powertools, handtools, and our grit to work the wood to our vision…but those trees easily command us to deliver enormous respect in their great towering wisdom….hanging over us proudly, almost to say…oh…little human….if you ever even knew what this maple saw before you were alive and what can happen if I fall on thee….lol…
Be well friends and thanks for looking in on any of this.

My wife and daughters would love this. It’s really cute and you did a nice job on it.

Nice birdhouse. You even have a decoy to attract them! Thanks for sharing…........Jim
