Another try at Andys art box , Its a test box for a music box that I will be building . Learned alot about music boxes while making it . The box is made with pine stained with dye on the case . The skirt and inner box is stained with dark walnut oil base . The keys and dowel hole are done in dark walnut .The sides were cut from a 2×4 that was split in half and miter so the grain would run around the box . The top was also split and book matched I glued it to the carcass top at a slight angle .The skirts bottom is a little higher in the front than in the back so that the music escapes more towards the front of the box.
Here it is in video if you want to hear it play

Thanks for looking

That is a very striking box. Very nice design and finish. I like the keys and dowels. The look like musical notes sideways!! I’m going to save this one in my favorites. I think justagirl made similar box with the sander carving but not with the musical movement and keys.

That is awesome! It turned out great. I like the cheap pine w/ knot and the green dye. The dowel/splined corners look like quarter or eighth notes. Nice job…I’m digging that dye.

Jim, the continuation of the grain around corners is brilliant. I’ll have to try that. It is outstanding!

Man this is absolutely gorgeous. The dye makes it even more special. Love the knot and the inlay. Congrats and thanks for sharing.
