Not sure where I saw this or a similar pattern – may have been on this site I dont know. But it has been in my head for a long time. There is a small boat builder near me and they sell small off cuts of ply for $1 a piece and sometimes I grab some of the nicer bits, so there is all of $2.00 worth of wood in this project. Easy to make – the biggest problem was my cutting was off in a couple of places as you can see. Top is two pieces glued together. Engraved the edge with a quote from Socrates ‘Beware the barreness of a busy life’. Bit of an in joke as it was a present for a family friend. Engraved with a dremmel and the lettering stained with fence stain. Whole thing sanded and a couple of coats of polly. All slides together and apart real easy and is solid as a rock.

very convenient, could even use for camping, at the campfire or hiking!

Awww thanks guys. Turtlepan – Camping maybe but you wouldnt want to carry this around in you backpack
