My wife and I are expecting our first born here in August, so I’ve been feverishly working away to make sure I make my deadline!

This crib is of my own design and is actually the third one I’ve made. The design evolved from the first to the second, but remained almost the exact same this last time. The slats are all tenoned (no shoulder) into the upper and lower pieces and help create a very rigid assembly. The only bolts in the entire thing are to hold the four panels together. I designed it with the 3 in 1 convertible idea in mind.

The thing that stumped me for a long time on my first build was how to make an adjustable mattress pad. I ended up making some sort of french cleat mount, which you can see on the mattress base (pic 5) and the crib frame (pic 6)

This is a companion piece to dresser I posted last week.

First & foremost, congratulations! My wife & I had our first in January – it’s life-changing, all for the better!

Second, the crib looks great. I barely had enough time to BUY a crib, let alone make one.. ;)

One word of advice.. Pack a bag for the hospital sooner than later – sometimes things happen sooner than you plan. TRUST ME!

And bring a lunch ;-) They are going to be paying attention to your wife not you. Who cares if you haven’t eaten since yesterday. TRUST ME!

Love the hard maple, difficult to work with unless you have very sharp tools. Clean bright lines and finish.

Oh by the way, I also am working on a new crib. My oldest daughter is which child and I am working on a 3 in 1. Nature waits for no man.

Very nice Josh. I’m getting ready to build a 3 in 1 for my youngest Daughter. She is due Jan 29, 2013. I’ll be gettin on that after she has the baby, and hope to have it for here as soon as I can.
