This is a cottonwood bark carving that I just completed. Most of the carvings that I do are western figures so I have to be pay attention to a lot of little details. With this type of carving you just need to see something in the bark and start carving. You can make things up as you go along.

Mike, to say that you need to pay attention to the little details is somewhat of an understatement. The details in this carving are simply awesome. I greatly admire the skill and patience that it takes to produce a piece of this quality.

it reminds me of the Led Zeppelin album with the old man walking up the steps with the lantern. You’re quite an artist.

Some fine work there ! I used to draw things that looked like that years ago. I couldn’t imagine carving something like that. How tall is it?
