Well I finished this 4th flute in the key of Gm once again. I decided to try some anyline dye on this one and used blue. I deluted the dye with water but may try something else on the next one. I did’nt quite turn out they I imagined it and my burning of the blueberry vine got kindof washed out with the darker color of the dye, was’nt really thinking on that to much.

The fetesh came out pretty well, I pleased with it (made from more african blackwood).

The sound is pretty nice, I think and am pleased.

But I am having a little trouble with the dremel stones, I went through two on these hole and two on the holes of the last flute. I don’t know if I have the setting to high, or going to fast or maybe not drilling the holes closer to size before I use the dremel but they keep breaking in half on me.

If you move all of your holes slightly north they will not need to be as large. As little as 1/8” sometimes is enough.
You can also take a round needle file to reach to the bottom of the hole to enlarge it instead of using only the cone. I have learned this from the same experience.
Love the Raven fetish.

Thanks Rustic, I will keep that in mind. I actually kind of like bigger holes for some reason, but if I decide otherwise I’ll know what to do. :)

I would agree with Bruce, about the finger holes, but again sometime large holes make a flute sound more mellow as does the size of the TSH / the larger size the soft the sound. It’s all about what you like in the sound of your flute….

Hi Rustic, would you mind if sending me you measurements of your blue flute, the size of your TSH, north and south east and west, the size of your bore the key or fundamental note, and the thickness of your bore wall, I would like to compare it with what I have and send you a diagram. sometime enlarging the holes are from placing the fingerhole in the wrong place. [email protected] that’s pl not l p in hepler
