These are some old photos from the eighties of a table base I made on my first router lathe which is completely different from my recent one.
The lathe is build from MDF and had a router mounted on a slide on the back wall with a template follower coming of the router at the front running on the template .
It was fun making columns on this set up but the templates where a somewhat trail and error design as to the pivot configuration of the router pivot set up.
I am sorry I never took pic of the lathe but photos in those days where expensive and digital camera !

It was a nice result. I have often wondered how I could make the twist cuts on a column that you have done here.

hi Roz
the spiral flute is done without turning the column on this set up because of the hinged router arm
I just locked the column in the index plate and moved the router side to side using end stops on the back wall.
