While I have done my share of rough carpentry quite sometime ago. I recently got the itch to get into woodworking, found this site, and while this project is pretty amateurish compared to some of the incredible things I have seen here, my wife was very pleased with these. She wanted “mission style” end tables but she also wanted to be able to store games, etc in them. Well 24 BF of quartersawn red oak, 1/2 sheet of 1/4 oak plywood, 48 tenons, 32 mortises, 16 grooves, 32 #20 biscuits for top and bottom panels, 8 screws for each top, and 8 screws for each set of hinges and they are finally done. Per Lee Barker if I did not post pics then the project didn’t happen {many thanks to Lee Barker and HerbC for top mounting suggestions – I used wooden buttons/blocks that worked quite well}. One valuable lesson learned though: double check your screws made by Pro-tite, in my box of 1” screws there was at least 1 that was 1 1/2”. I still cannot believe I didn’t notice it until it was sticking out of one of my tops!

These are my first attempts at “real” woodworking and I wanted to do something that was authentic to its original style (within reason … I did use power tools).

Thanks Doc. I will post a couple of odds n ends: raised panel doors, kitchen island, cutting boards. I am currently building a patio & pergola off the deck I built last summer. After that back to the finer stuff … an entertainment center to match the end tables.
