This is a camera mount for my Flip HD III video camera for the dash of my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. It’s made of scrap plywood and bits of this and that. Plus it has a screw to hold the arm in place….the arm that swings 360 degrees around the dash so the camera could also take video through the back window or side windows. And it has a thumb screw to hold the camera. The dash has a double curve to it and I sawed the triple-layer plywood base with a double curve seen in the third picture. It will be mounted with silicone or rubber cement….probably silicone. I’ve been slowly making this for 2 months….a little here and a little there….probably 3 hours total design and construction. It’s nothing spectacular just functional. I don’t think it will be “finished” though I could paint it green or something like that….the interior of the Jeep is gray….the exterior is dark green.

Oh, the blue painter’s tape is a kind of shim….the camera wobbled a bit….and this tape steadies the camera….just enough. to make it firm.

I envision a drawer in the base with a second battery for the cam (unless you have a car power adapter for it). And a gray coat ;)

Good idea, the camera only records 2 hours of video on one battery charge….it can only store 2 hours of video at 720 p. Then it has to be dumped into a computer….and recharged. I don’t have a portable computer so I have to go home and do the dump….and the charge. Since I don’t leave the area roughly 25 miles from home, I’m okay. It isn’t intended to record lengthy trips….which I can’t take. I only wish. It’s just to record my short hops into town to buy groceries, weather, animals on the highway, accidents in front, if any, and hopefully not involving me…..and short video notes to myself with the camera turned around facing me in the driver’s seat. The camera has limits….but then most video is shot in short bursts not lengthy ones. Perhaps the day will come when I can afford a camera with more memory capability.
