bandsaw box

This box came about as I have recently purchased a bandsaw (Scheppach Basato 3h vario, very good so far) and I was asked to make a gift for someone with the initial S.

I made this by making a blank from mahogany and hardwood ply, and cutting out on the bandsaw in the normal bandsaw box way (thanks to lumberjocks for info).

Once assembled I decided to add some veneer to the drawers for extra contrast I think it is Cocobolo or maccasser ebony but please let me know if you think differently, it came from an offcut selection i purchased.
The handles are maple.

The finish is french polish which I have never done before and is very labour intensive. The deep lustre that it produces is worth it though, next time I will do it on a nice flat table or something though.

The drawers are lined in pigskin that I got from my mothers material stash.

Very nice box. I agree that the veneer is probably Macasser Ebony. It looks consistent with that. Be careful, bandsaw boxes are addictive! Mostly because everyone will want one once they see this one.

Great job Ollie! Love the lining, too.
