Made this pen for my wife. The burl was a little tough to turn. I had to go slowly due to tearout at the ends and I used thin CA glue on spots that looked sketchy. Also, the blank was thinner than it should have been, so I didn’t have much wood to work with. The finish is Shellawax and the kit is a Mont Blanc copy from PSI.

one of my favorite burls for pens. Nice job on the turning, looks like the fit is perfect. Why did you choose shellwax for the finish?

Hix, thanks. I’m new to turning so I wouldn’t necessarily say I “chose” shellawax. I was interested in a friction polish and PSI has a 1 oz. sample priced right. Do you recommend another? I was going to try the cream next.

Have your say...
