Made this box for a friend to hold her knitting needles. It’s about 14.5” long inside to hold the largest needles she uses. It’s walnut with a spray lacquer finish.
I liked how the saw mill edges looked, so I left them that way. It’s nicer than any carving I could have done. Originally, I intended to peg the joints, but I didn’t like how the stock I had on hand looked with the walnut.
Planed down a cedar scrap and filled the box with the shavings and a surprise shawl pin (visible in the third photo). As with any project, there are little things here and there that I notice and will work to improve next time, but the most important thing is that she was happy with the results.

What a beautiful and useful project! It seems like it would be nice having a box to accommodate all of them, specialty-made! -foraging for a box that “would do” usually turns up something too big, or too short…That is awesome!
