I did this just for fun in a weekend, I don’t have the final picture with the clock works in it as I already gave to it to my dad. On this one the base is just too wide but I will make more of these and change the dimensions to a narrower base.
Edit: Finally have a picture of the clock with works installed.

I’m sure your dad appreciated it. The wider base style doesn’t look bad. It’ll add stability.
