I was reluctant to post this as a project but due to insistent demand of my relatives, I was forced to post it.
The Star—Flores de Mayo or Santacrusan is a tradition in the Philippines. It includes Queens (Reynas) parading in costumes of KINGS AND QUEEN. Janna my daughter is one of the selected queen that will be the Flower queen. She needs a scepter like WAND with a Star on the end. THIS IS WHERE MY EXPERTISE was put on the challenge. I planned to make it golden star that is made from wood. I was thinking it is easier to cut by saw but not true because there is no place to clamp it. This is only 3 inches in diameter from the points. So I remembered how JORDAN do the DREMEL carving… THIS IS THE ONLY WAY. I DID IT using DREMEL for cutting and wasting this wood… IT TURNED OUT GOOD. BUT TO TELL YOU MY EXPERIENCE is really unforgetable.. It is really difficult to shape wood using dremel specially you can not afford to overcut.
The Wand—It is made from Philippine ironwood (kamagong) Ebony and really strong. the handle part was carved by a file and chisel. The tapering rod made from spokeshave and plane. This is a normal job. Joining the star with a wedge lock and glue….
IF EVER I WILL BE MAKING MORE OF THE STARS THIS COMING CHRISTMAS…. I know how to do it.
Thanks for Jordan who made my life easy on dremel carving…
