When I found out my wife was pregnant I jokingly said I would build the crib and she held me to it. It is constructed with poplar for everything but the beadboard on the back panel which is pine. It is painted with an espresso finish. Let me know what you think.

It looks nice and sturdy. I guess the most important thing with a crib is you need it sized right so the mattress fits snug. You’ve practically sinned though as far as some of the LJs are concerned since you painted the wood, but they’ll get over it, haha. Now the kid will crave espresso for the rest of his/her life and wonder why. Anyway, you did way better than I did. I never actually made the cribs or changing tables that my wife mentioned over the years for any of our four kids. Welcome to Lumberjocks.

Brother congrats! I got dragged into some $1000 “built-to-grow” baby furniture and it is crap! I broke it down to convert it from a crib to a “big girl bed” tonight and the $150 set of rails and slats were garbage, the rails were plywood sanded and finished and the slats were regular 1×4 that they did me the huge favor of boxing and shipping (ya hear my sarchasm yet?). Anyway, good for you building something that’ll last and your kid can be proud of later! Your wife will appreciate it too when it doesn’t scratch and dent like cheap cans after 2-3 years. Rant OVER- kudos to YOU!
