I made this tool box at the Atlanta lumber yard where I work, during a construction slowdown in the early 1980’s. The tool box is made from Cherry and has lots of cool features. Built into the top is a saw holder with slots for the different saws I use. Two slots along the inside back allow a framing square to slide down behind the drawers. All of the dovetails were made with mallet and chisel.

Very nice, I really like the handles and pulls. Did you build on the fly or by plans?

Thanks, KenFitz! The basic design was from plans in an old Popular Mechanics magazine. I have been looking for the plans in boxes of back issues (I had most of them back to the 50’s, my grandfather had a subsrcription), but haven’t been able to find them yet. There were some modifications I had to make in order to use the materials I had at hand.

Do I know that feeling. Been downsizing myself. Fortunate to get a lot of old issues on a number of mags on cd. Slowly going through hard copies and scanning those I want to keep. Love th idea of no hardware pieces. Integrated handles, pulls drawer slides ect is what it is all about.

That’s a nice box, Reid. I see you are a good ole Georgia boy. Welcome to Lumberjocks.
