This is the second of 4 of these that I made for my children and family friends. The design comes from a book I got at the library.

Making these for the kids is rewarding, but a huge pain in the neck because of all the small curved pieces that need to be shaped and sanded. Making the wheels is the most tedious part… you have to cut each tread and then sand little bevels on 8 pieces to get 4 wheels.

I just bought this book specifically for this truck which is on the cover page. I have not yet attempted to try to make this since I have not been able to find a block of hard wood large enough to make the main body. I did not want to try and glue scraps together and then attempt to cut all the wierd angles. I may have to in the end.

The tires do look like a tedious process but at least they give you a pattern and show how to make a jig to do them.

I have a pdf copy of this project if anyone is looking to make it as well. I will e-mail it for free. Just send me a message.

Making the wheels on the bandsaw appears to eliminate the need to sand the bevels… but it’s also more work than doing the wheels on the tablesaw.
