This is an interesting shelf that my wife asked for when she saw one in a magazine. (I always try to make anything she asks for, it helps justify the tool expense.) I had a small piece of Purple Heart that I had used for an accent piece for a box I made. Since purple is her favoriate color, she asked me if I could make it out of purple heart. At that time I had never seen aged Purple Heart, and I couldn’t find any pictures of it online, All I could find were pictures of fresh cut wood. I tried to explain that it wouldn’t stay purple, but she still wanted it, so she got it. Its been about 2 1/2 years now and it has been in a room without direct sunlight, and has turned a beautiful red brown. I included a close up of the wood grain for anybody who is interested in how Purple Heart ages. Overall it is about 12 inches high and about 14 inches long and about 3 inches deep.

Very nice.
What is the hanging method you use for this piece?

At first I thought it was a large shelf system for the living room – I can see this, a little narrower & 72” tall or so, I really like it. I’ve never seen finished purple heart before, thanks for the close up, it’s gorgeous!
