This is the 3rd woodworking project I have done. I made a table out of poplar for a friend and finished it with waterlox original. I learned some good lessons the hard way through this project. All in all a great time and can’t wait to start the next project.

Looks good Todd. I’ve started using poplar a lot more. I think it’s underrated. Mostly I stain with a poly topcoat.

Nice looking table. I’m also a fan of poplar. It also takes a dark stain well.

Thanks guys, I went with poplar because I don’t have a joiner, planer or table saw so I was limited to what they had at my local big box. I like the way the poplar looks. A lot of people who are not really familiar with woodworking and matching grains etc see it and say ” wow I love the different grain colors” so I think we sometimes miss the mark in terms of what the general public think.

We are not alone. I picked up some poplar slabs this summer and I’m antsy about what to do with them. I use to think poplar was so unenchanting looking at it in the box stores. But in slab form its amazing. Will post some pics when I get the chance. Inspiring work MTS.
