tree of life plaque

this is a plaque Ive made for a friend in Arizona, Ive done something similar but this is a plaque, the tree is made of oak and red cedar and the rest is done in walnut, the plaque itself is walnut, and has a outside strip of red oak that goes around the outside edge, the straight line going through the tree is holly wood. Its a little hard to see but my friends name is carved up at the top, i did it with a router and could have cleaned it up a little better, but i did as good as i could on it , the outside of the plaque has a 1/8th inlay of padauk the goes all around the outside edge and at the corners it crosses itself and the round fruit in the tree is made of dogwood, the sign at the bottom that says hold to the rod was cross stitched by my wife..the reference to rod means the word of hold to the rod …means hold onto the word of god..and with the way things are going in our world today …i believe we need to hold on to the word of god always…and this will have a personal message to my friend….i really love making these tree’s…each piece is about one inch long and are cut at a 45 degree angle..there glued in separate rows and then i put them in a small jig i made the lets me clamp it all together..with a piece of walnut in between each row, thank you for looking at my project and thank you for your comments..grizzman

That is really cool, Grizz! I love it and the choices of wood you used were outstanding. Your friend is going to really love it! :)

Very nice looking plaque. When I look at the walnut around the bottom of the tree it makes it look like a shadow box instead of a plaque. Maybe no one else sees it but that is what I see. Thanks Grizz for sharing this beautiful piece. Hold To The Rod my friend.

God bless

Yes, very cool Grizz. It definitely has your unique style and look to it (that’s a good thing) and an excellent message as well. I always enjoy seeing your work!
