Hi Everyone

15 below this morning, minus 2 in the barn, so, no woodworking today, so I went through some of my old pic’s of projects and decided to post some more. This is one of my first boxes, probably about the 10th one or so. It stayed around without the hinges for a while, then my Mom moved up to Maine, so I put some hinges on it and gave it to her. The box is made of pallet wood poplar, It has dove tail joints, which I did on a store bought jig, it has a picture framed panel lid with a rose colored wood inlay around the ash center. I used three hinges for extra strength, and a chain to support the lid. I was going to put a mirror on the inside of the lid, but liked the ash, so I left it as it was. I put a solid brass latching catch on the front, mortised in. The Finnish is just a semi gloss poly. Thanks for looking

Looks very nice, Mic. I think that poplar looks great. I would have never guessed that’s what it was, nor that it had already served duty as a pallet! I sure like how you ventured into dovetails on only your 10th box. Oh – it sounds way to cold up there.

Thanks Randy for your nice comment, yes it is way too cold here in Maine, felt like the north pole this morning. The poplar is nice wood to work with, it starts out with a green color, and as time and light get to it, it changes to shades of brown, I hear if it is kept away from any light it will stay green color, of course that would not be practical
