This is a Big Leaf Maple Burl Bowl/Candy Dish. The project is 7” tall 12” across the widest part, the sphere stopper is a 5” sphere of the same material. It is finished with Super Sauce(30% Tung Oil,30% Rocklar Varnish,30% Low Odor Mineral Spirits) 1st coat is 1/2 Mineral Spirits and 1/2 Sauce. The piece was cut from a small burl cap. I have again watched the Episode of Woodturning on cable TV with Tim Yoder where he featured Stuart Beatty and his square planes penetated by a small bowl that is the inspiration for this one. Hope this inspires other to try this form of turning.

You realy love this burl, this is a very nice piece of turning presenting a beautiful edged cup for the ball on top.
(I’d love to get hold of some of this stuff & go mad.)
Your “sauce” gives a nice finish

Wonderful! I think I actually like the sphere most of all. Maybe it’s because I have a terrible time turning one!
